Reflections Before Blush Turns One

As Blush Photography approaches its first birthday in just a few short days, I've found myself reflecting on how this all started... and honestly, how much this little business has completely changed my life.

It's hard to believe that in just one year, what started as a dream became something so much bigger than I ever imagined.

One year.

200 sessions.

Countless memories.

And a heart that is fuller than I ever thought possible.

Growing Up Surrounded by Celebration

I was born in 1993 in Southbridge, Massachusetts, before my family eventually moved to Palmer while I was growing up. My parents were both born in Puerto Rico, and I've always carried a lot of pride in my Puerto Rican roots.

Maybe that's where my love for celebrations comes from.

Give me a reason to gather people together, good food, music playing in the background, and people making memories they'll talk about for years, and I'm in my happy place.

Looking back, it's probably one of the reasons I fell in love with photography in the first place.

Becoming a Wife & Mother

I met my husband, Matthew, back in October 2018 and everything just kind of clicked from there.

We got engaged in February 2021 while in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico ...which honestly felt like something straight out of a movie.

Then came one of our biggest milestones: buying our first home together in June 2022.

After that, we officially became husband and wife in September 2023.

And shortly after, our greatest adventure arrived... our daughter, Luna, in October 2024

Becoming a wife and a mom changed me in ways I can't even explain.

It made me realize just how quickly time passes.

How much we wish we could bottle up the little moments forever. And how important it is to actually be IN the photos.

The Little Dream That Became Blush

When I started Blush Photography, I honestly had no idea where it would lead. I didn't know if people would book. I didn't know if I was good enough. I didn't know if this little dream would become something real. But I knew one thing: I loved people. And I loved preserving memories. So I took a chance. And somehow that chance became Blush Photography.

What many people don't realize is that Blush Photography wasn't built with unlimited free time. It was built between responsibilities. Between work. Between motherhood. Between everyday life.

Some days it meant editing after Luna went to bed. Some days it meant answering emails during lunch breaks. Some days it meant chasing a dream while feeling completely exhausted. But little by little, session by session, gallery by gallery, this dream kept growing.

Why Photography Felt Like Home

But honestly? Being a people person has always been part of who I am.

I still laugh thinking about my very first job at 16 years old working at Friendly's.

I started as a fountain worker scooping ice cream, and I remember my dad constantly asking me to bring home Jim Dandys every night.

Eventually I realized I loved interacting with people even more than scooping ice cream, so I moved into serving and I LOVED it.

That's when I realized something: I genuinely love human connection.

I love hearing people's stories.

I love meeting new people.

I love making people feel welcome.

I could literally have a conversation with a tree if I had to

Maybe it's the Middle Child Syndrome talking

But if one person feels left out, uncomfortable, or isn't having fun, my brain immediately goes into problem-solving mode. I just want everyone to feel included, celebrated, and loved.

Looking back, photography was probably inevitable.

That love for people naturally led me into hospitality, celebrations, events, and eventually photography.

Funny enough, I was torn between becoming a photographer or a party planner because I've always loved details, emotions, and creating experiences people never forget.

Why Blush?

One question I get asked all the time is:

"Why Blush Photography?"

Truthfully, after countless conversations with my husband, I knew I didn't want to go the traditional route. So many photographers use their first name, middle name, or family name for their business, and while there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, it just didn't feel right for me.

I wanted the name to represent a feeling. A moment. An emotion. When I think of the word blush, I don't think about a color. I think about the smile you can't hide. The butterflies before something exciting. The happy tears. The laughter that makes your cheeks hurt. The moments that leave you feeling completely present. That's what I wanted Blush Photography to stand for. Not just photos. But feelings.

The Emotional Heart Behind Blush

And if I'm being completely honest... I'm a HUGE emotional baby! I cry during movies even if I've watched them a hundred times already. I'm a massive Disney girl and will forever believe in happy endings. Encanto? Forget it. I cry every single time...

And don't even get me started on Disney trips because if Happily Ever After starts playing at Magic Kingdom, there's a 99.9% chance I'm standing there ugly crying while my husband rubs my back pretending this isn't completely normal...

But honestly? I think that's why photography became so special to me. I feel everything deeply. The milestones. The excitement. The anticipation. The joy. The emotions. Because to me, these aren't just photos. They're memories. They're stories. They're pieces of life we'll never get back.

More Than Just Photos

Especially motherhood. As a mom myself, I understand how much women go through physically, emotionally, and mentally. Especially during things like one-year sessions where everyone is celebrating the baby. But honestly? I'm celebrating YOU too. The mom who carried that baby. The sleepless nights. The overwhelming love. The sacrifices nobody fully sees.I see you. And that's why photography means so much to me. It's not just about photos. It's about preserving the people and moments we never want to forget.

The Girl Behind The Camera

The truth is, I'm still figuring it out too. I don't have all the answers. Some days I feel like I have everything under control. Other days I'm on third ice coffee, chasing after Luna, answering emails, editing galleries, and wondering how it's already 9 PM. I'm still learning. I'm still growing. I'm still making mistakes. I'm still finding my confidence. And maybe that's why I connect so deeply with people. Because I don't expect perfection from anyone else when I know none of us are perfect. At the end of the day, I'm just a wife, a mom, a dreamer, a Disney-loving emotional mess, and a girl with a camera who genuinely loves people.

You Are Already Worthy

One thing I've learned over the years is how easy it is to compare ourselves to everyone else.

Social media makes it seem like everyone else has it figured out.

Trust me... I've been there too.

But one thing I've had to remind myself over and over again is:

There is nobody else in this world exactly like you.

And that's your magic.

Your laugh.

Your personality.

Your story.

Your smile.

Your strength.

Your love.

That uniqueness deserves to be celebrated...not compared.

One Year Later

In just a few short days, Blush Photography will officially celebrate its first birthday.

And honestly?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around that.

Because what started as a dream somehow turned into one of the most rewarding chapters of my life.

Looking back now, I am beyond grateful to say that in my very first year, I had the honor of photographing over 200 sessions:

200 sessions.

200 stories.

200 opportunities to connect with incredible people.

200 reminders of why I fell in love with photography in the first place.

To every family, couple, bride, groom, senior, business owner, mama, and friend who trusted me with your memories this year:

Thank you.

Thank you for supporting a dream.

Thank you for believing in me.

Thank you for inviting me into some of the most important moments of your lives.

What started as a dream became friendships.

It became community.

It became Blush.

I am still learning.

I am still growing.

I am still finding new ways to improve every single day.

And I truly cannot wait to see what Year Two has in store!

The Beautiful Chaos of Life

Because at the end of the day, life moves far too fast.

And if I can help people feel seen, celebrated, loved, and remembered through all the beautiful chaos of life...

Then I know I'm doing exactly what I was meant to do.
